Deaths! Cleotha Staples and Bob Godfrey!

It’s a big day for the Krist(i)(e)ns! Man, that looks confusing. We’ve got a Kristen and a Kristin, and both are having a good day. That’s what I meant.

First up! Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Cleotha Staples took you there for the last time yesterday, at the age of 78. Member of the famed Staple Singers, Cleotha is the first of the Staples siblings to hit that high note in the sky, following the band’s founder and family patriarch, Pops Staples, who left us back in 2000. Her sister Mavis is still very active, appearing before the slightly confused crowd at Lollapalooza back in 2010. And Mavis was awesome that day, just saying.

Also, Academy Award winning animator and staple of British children’s television Bob Godfrey finished up inking the big book of life today, at the age of 91! Godfrey is best known across the pond for his series Roobarb and Henry’s Cat, and would probably be slightly more recognized here for his Oscar contending shorts Dream Doll, Small Talk, Kama Sutra Rides Again (my goodness!), and Great, which won in 1975. Good run, Bob!

Kristen G picked up 32 points for Miss Staples, moving her into fourth on the year, and second in The Delver division (Did you notice we have divisions now? Had to split everyone up somehow!), while Kristin M nabbed 19 points for Mr. Godfrey, landing her in second in The Crystal. Good work! 14 deaths just over a month since the draft – big year ahead!

Be sure to get your replacement picks in by 2/27!
