Y.A. Tittle!

NFL Quarterback and Hall of Famer Y.A. Tittle tossed one into the end zone for the last time yesterday, at the age of 90! Yelberton Abraham Tittle (no wonder he shortened it!) played college ball at LSU before being drafted into the short lived AAFC by Baltimore, and subsequently into the NFL by the San Francisco 49ers in 1951. Over the next ten years in San Fran and four more with the New York Giants, Tittle was a seven time Pro Bowler and League MVP (from the AP, UPI, and Newspaper Enterprise Association) in four different seasons. He was the first football player to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated, in 1954, and is still tied for the record for most touchdowns in a game with seven. When he retired, he held most significant passing records, including career yards, career touchdowns, career pass attempts and completions, single season touchdowns, and games played.

Eleven Year Man Tittle bounced around between me (6 times between ’07 and ’14), Sarah, and Denis, before landing with Capone from 2015 onward. These 20 points jump him into sixth overall, only four points back of the Buonins, and bunch fully six teams within 52 points on the leaderboard! Incredibly tight contest here! Well done!

Tittle is the 11th Eleven Year Man to leave us in 2017, already outpacing 2016’s total of 9, but still leaves us with 67 folks who’ve been taken in every pool (and a few taken in all but this year, and still could be, I suppose). Stats!

Replacement pick due by next Monday!
